Message After months of development, my engine mount is nearing fruition. This is the second design, the first mimicked Noltecs but used a better anchoring method. That first design has been in my personal vehicle for a half year now. In designing that mount I learned some lessons about that particular design concept. Beside the heat aging issues seen in others designs, my first mount was subject to loading it was not well equipped to handle. Drive train movement with respect to the chassis results in front to back and side to side movement on the mounts. This puts the urethane in shear, a stress type it is not well equipped to handle, particularly after aging. The other major force the mounts see is tensile on the drivers side, from torque on the drive train. Tensile stress is also difficult for polymers to handle.

First design, shown in the most deflected positions...

My second revision throws all that out the window, in favor of a design that keeps the urethane in compression during all major load types. Here is the CAD model locked down as it is before first article production.

The captured "thrust bushing" design keeps the urethane constrained and in compression during all load types. The flanged ends prevent the top and bottom brackets from coming in contact at any time.

Obvious benefits of the design include rebuildablity and the ability to act as hinges to make transmission work a breeze. I am also working with the possibility of added heat stabilizers to prolong or eliminate aging urethane. It is recommended that with ANY engine mount, factory heat shields or equivalent be used on the exhaust manifolds.

The first set is being laser cut tomorrow! Keep an eye out for updates to come...

While getting tires mounted for Zcon, I had this doozy of a conversation with the mechanic...

Tireguy: [looking at emblem] Is this a Twin Turbo?
Me: Well, yea.
Tireguy: Awesome! How much boost do you run?
Me: 14-15 ish.
Tireguy: Cool. On both?

ROFLMFAO

I'll be there in electronic format =). (n/m) - Kenny
Good opportunity to erase Kenny ^^^^ :D (n/m) - CaliguyPurdue
